Two June events kick off EY Cultural Hotspot program

Danforth Village Fair newFrom May through October 2017, the Cultural Hotspot shines a spotlight on arts, culture, and the community in the east end and East York.

The second annual Danforth Village Fair kicks things off on Saturday, June 10 at Main Square (corner of Danforth Ave. and Main Street) with an afternoon of free arts and community/family activities. . From noon till 6 p.m. there will be live music, face painting for the kids, displays of balcony gardens, a bike tune-up clinic and more. Participants include Centre 55; Bangladeshi Centre & Community Services; Hope United Church; Access Alliance; 32 Spokes/Cycle Solutions; South Riverdale Health Centre; and the Danforth East Community Association.

The following Saturday June 17 a more formal Hotspot Launch event takes place at East York Civic Centre at 850 Coxwell Ave., where a mix of dance, music, arts and crafts exhibits and activities take place from 1-4 p.m.

The event includes performances by Broken Dance, Baque de Bamba, former longtime EY musician Mark Sepic with his celebrated “Junkestra” interactive musical display/instrument and DJ Cosmic Cat for good measure. Arts activities will also be provided by Mr. Sepic, VIBE Arts and Pamela Schuller, while pop-up mini-galleries and performance areas will be staged in a community arts fair with numerous participants.
