A new memorial garden has taken root outside East York’s Todmorden branch of the Royal Canadian Legion at 1083 Pape Ave. after a throng of enthusiastic volunteers gathered to dig and plant on Saturday, August 12.

The “living tribute” garden aims to honour soldiers fallen while serving their country and includes a memorial tablet, according to branch president P.J. O’Neill.

In addition to members of the Branch 10 association, additional volunteers were provided by the American Society of Association Executives, which was holding its annual meeting at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Although a dedication ceremony with local Toronto-Danforth MP Julie Dabrusin and Ward 29 Councillor Mary Fragedakis had to be scrapped due to a sudden thundershower that drenched the area, the garden was eventually finished and now flourishes.
