It’s once again that time of year when local amateur athletes start dreaming about winning gold —as in the coveted “Golden Bedpan” trophy awarded annually to the fastest team in the 11th annual Danforth Dash Bed Race!

Four-member squads will roll a hospital bed along Danforth Avenue starting at 2 p.m. Fri. Aug. 11 to help kick off the annual Taste of The Danforth Festival.

It’s all in a good cause of course, namely raising money for the Michael Garron Hospital, which so far has received an estimated $300,000 from the wacky competition.

Since last year’s winners aren’t returning this year, the field is wide open and event sponsors the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association have reportedly been training hard in hopes of winning their first-ever title.
