As we told you last issue, East York two-time Olympic swimmer Martha McCabe is now exploring a whole new dimension of her talents as a public speaker and motivational coach, having conducted clinics and speaking engagements in 26 cities from Vancouver to Toronto since her return from the Rio games.

She was able to do the tour, which she dubbed “Martha’s Canadian Drive” in part thanks to the support of the Royal Bank of Canada, which provided her and companion Matt Bortolussi with a vehicle for the trek. Her appearances at swim clubs and schools are aimed at helping the next generation of athletes to develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Now, thanks to another socially conscious sponsor, automaker BMW Canada, who’ve given her use of one of their cars, the mission has been extended to go from East York, where as a youth she attended Cosburn Middle School and Leaside High School, to Newfoundland.

She has stops in Peterborough, Brockville, Ottawa and Quebec, tentative dates in the Atlantic provinces and an appearance in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on October 8.
