Two-and-a-half years ago [Issue 006, December 2014] we told you about the brave fight against cancer being waged by east TO resident Courtney Sayliss, who was struggling to have a good Christmas for her two boys.

Sadly, her tale this spring took a tragic turn as the brothers, Joey, 7, and Jonny, 3, lost first their father, Joe Parum, to a massive and unexpected heart attack in May and then, on June 24, Courtney, perhaps devastated by the loss of her main life support, succumbed to her disease.

The boys are being cared for by their maternal grandmother Sharron, who needs support to meet all the various expenses involved in taking on this responsibility. Community members have put together a GoFundMe page to assist, which at press time had raised just over half of its $50,000 goal.

You can donate by visiting the page at https://www.gofundme.com/angels-for-joey-jonny-courtney or email transfers can be sent to angelsforjjc@gmail.com.

A celebration of Courtney’s life and fighting spirit will be held from on Monday, July 17 from 6:30-10:30 at Beach United Church, 140 Wineva Ave., where donations will also be accepted.
