East York has the best politicians too!

Apparently not only is East York and area the best place in Toronto (maybe the world?) to live, it’s also the best place to be a politician!

Local representatives Peter Tabuns and Nathaniel Erskine-Smith wouldn’t appear to have a lot in common on the face of things.

Mr. Tabuns, who represents Toronto-Danforth riding as an NDP Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), is a politically savvy 66-year-old 11-year veteran officeholder who cruised to re-election with 44.4% of the vote in the 2014 campaign and was formerly voted best MPP in his debut year in office in 2006.

Mr. Erskine-Smith is a rookie maverick MP half the age of Tabuns who represents Beaches-East York riding for the Liberals since handily upsetting NDP incumbent Matthew Kellway by capturing just shy of 50% of the vote in the 2015 campaign.

While their political policies may be divergent (though perhaps not as much as their formal political affiliations might suggest) as of last month both reps can claim to share an enviable distinction: they’re much loved by their constituents.

In a recent (highly unscientific) readers’ poll by NOW magazine, Tabuns was voted “Best MPP” in Toronto, while Erskine-Smith took top honours for “Best MP.”  Congratulations to both men and may their future service to the area continue to merit such accolades.
