Thanks to the patrons of the Donlands Diner at 417 Donlands Ave. in East York, the Alzheimer Society of Toronto has another $500 to put towards its work.

The charitable organization offers support, information and education to people with dementia, their families and their caregivers as well as working to increase public awareness of dementia, to promote research, and to advocate for services for patients and families.

Anna Tsirakidis, owner-manager of the retro-style diner since its remodeling and reopening in late 2016, today presented a cheque in that amount to Christine Mulligan, Corporate Partnership Officer for the society.

The $500 cheque represents a portion of the proceeds of the diner collected from December 22 to 24, 2017.

Ms. Tsirakidis said she intends to undertake future events like this one in order to encourage the community to assist in helping city charities by enjoying a good meal at the diner.

Ms. Mulligan said “I’m thrilled at the gift that Anna and the East York community have provided to our organization and want everyone involved to know how much we appreciate the effort that has gone into this wonderful event.”
