School fairs are popular this time of year and every institution tries to put its best foot forward at the annual events.

At Diefenbaker Public School staff and students had extra reason to beam as they used the occasion May 27 to unveil a stunning new historical mural covering walls and a staircase of the building on Plains Road west of Coxwell Blvd.

Local Toronto-Danforth MP Julie Dabrusin and Ward 20 Councillor Mary Fragedakis also attended along with throngs of parents and local residents.

The theme is based on an indigenous cultural theme of “Seven Grandfathers Sacred Teachings” and was developed by the students and staff in conjunction with Elder Esther Osche, who visited every class in the school to discuss the concept, the school’s principal explains in an accompanying text.

Students added in the idea of incorporating four seasons.
