Agricultural projects to get 500K through Greenbelt fund

Beaches-East York MPP Arthur Potts was on hand at Shoppers World Metro October 6 to announce new funding of $500,00 for 19 projects supporting local food investments, to be administered by the Greenbelt Fund, a non-profit organization supported by public and private sources.

Burkhard Mausberg, the CEO of the Greenbelt Fund, was also on hand for the announcement along with a representative of the grocery chain excited about a initiative in partnership with the Grape Growers of Ontario organization.  It is receiving $20,000 from the fund to send Doug Whitty, “the “Grape King,” to ten Metro stores throughout the province to offer sampling and wine tips for VQA wines made entirely from Ontario grapes.  The Metro store at Shoppers World is the only store in the Toronto area involved at this time.

The funding announcement is a continuation of the projects since 2015 that the Greenbelt Fund has administered with $4.2 million in support from the Ontario government.

Other projects among those in the announcement include programs to help food delivery, local food hubs and northeastern Ontario access to affordable food.
