ADOPTABLE PETS #029: Warturtle could be lifetime companion for right adopter

adoptable-petsWarturtle is a wonderful red-eared slider turtle.  She was found outside as a stray and now all she can dream of is a safe, forever home with a family committed to the proper care that a special turtle like her requires.

Turtles are lifetime companions who can live up to 50 years!  They are considered high maintenance, meaning they require a lot of your time.  Prior to bringing a turtle into your family a lot of research and thought should be put into their adoption.

Large resin/molded ponds with ledges make the best homes for turtles.  This type of setup allows for the turtle to have adequate diving room and a large drying “out of water” zone.  Regular partial water changes (approx. 25%) should be carried out once or twice a week with a heftier 70% water change once a month.

Turtles also require a large aquarium external filter to help cope with the constant turtle waste along with a protected aquarium heater.  Even though the set up and care that a turtle requires may seem like a burden, they do make wonderful companions and are quite relaxing to watch.  Turtles can even learn to recognize their owner’s voice!

If you have the time to commit to a beautiful turtle like Warturtle please email specialspecies@torontohumanesociety.com.  Please note that we require a photo of your cage/enclosure prior to finalization of the adoption.
