Diefenbaker school unveils new historical mural

School fairs are popular this time of year and every institution tries to put its best foot forward at the annual events. At Diefenbaker Public School staff and students had extra reason to beam as they used the occasion May 27 to unveil a stunning new historical mural covering walls and a staircase of the building on Plains Road west of Coxwell Blvd. Local Toronto-Danforth MP Julie Dabrusin and Ward 20 Councillor Mary Fragedakis also attended along with throngs of parents and local residents. The theme is based on an indigenous cultural theme of “Seven Grandfathers Sacred Teachings” and was developed by the students and staff in conjunction with Elder Esther Osche, who visited every class in the school to discuss the concept, the school’s principal explains in an accompanying text. Wolves bring Cosburn Middle School its first hockey championship

After an exciting season that saw them go into overtime in the final championship game, the Cosburn Wolves hockey team emerged winners of the Toronto District Elementary School Athletic Association’s Southern Conference title on March 1. It was the first time in the school’s history that a hockey championship had been won. After advancing to the finals on the strength of a previous overtime win —a shoot-out victory against a higher ranked team after coming back from a two-goal deficit— the co-ed team of Grade 6-8 students won the final with goal notched with just 15.6 seconds left on the clock in the overtime...
